HUMANE EDUCATION PROGRAMS

The SPCA of Luzerne County’s educational programs reach over 2,000 students per year through classroom visits, special events, summer programs, volunteerism, and facility tours.

Humane Education is important component to what the SPCA does within our community and is an invaluable tool in building strong, responsible members of our society.  The link between animal abuse and other violence is strong. It is our hope that our education programs enhance your current curriculum and help build strong character and increase empathy among your students. The SPCA of Luzerne County strives to make incorporating humane education into your curriculum easy.

Our Education Department can visit your school with various programs for children from Pre-School (4 years old) through 6th grade. Our humane education programs currently offered are:

  • SPCA 101 - Who we are and what we do
  • Animal Care and Animal Safety

Program are available for a classroom setting or an assembly presentation. Shelter tours for small groups can also be arranged.

Hours of Operation:

Humane Education programs are available during our shelter’s regular business hours.  Programs are typically scheduled several weeks in advance depending on the time of the year. You can schedule a program by filling out the form below or by emailing Humane Education Coordinator.

Please remember that our education schedule can be filled between two and six months in advance. The Education Department is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and major holidays.

Tours of the SPCA:

Tours of the shelter are done for small groups (no more than 6-8 children plus adults) to learn about the shelter.  Tours are also scheduled several weeks in advance.

After school clubs, girl/boy scout troops and other groups can schedule a visit from our humane educator to cover any animal related topic.

Scheduling A Program:

Please schedule early to ensure our participation in your program or event.

Our programs are provided without fees, however a donation drive can help get your students more involved with their community and get them excited about upcoming programs.  Collecting donations will also help fund future programs and help provide for the animals in our care.

To schedule please fill out the form below and we will contact you to discuss.
