From Kennel to Camp: Giving Shelter Dogs a Chance to Shine
At the SPCA of Luzerne County, we know that a shelter kennel doesn't always tell a dog's true story. The stress, noise, and uncertainty of shelter life can make even the friendliest dogs seem shy, anxious, or overwhelmed. That's why we created our Kennel to Camp program in partnership with Camp Bow Wow.
This incredible program gives our adoptable dogs the opportunity to spend time outside the shelter in a fun, structured environment where they can play, socialize with other dogs, build confidence, and simply be themselves. Through enrichment and positive experiences, we see their true personalities come to life, personalities that potential adopters don't always get to see behind kennel doors. There is nothing more heartwarming then when they return to the Camp rooms at night and they are so tuckered out from a fun filled day... with only sweet dreams of another full day to come!
The results have been nothing short of amazing. Nearly every dog that has attended camp has gone on to find a loving home. Camp not only provides valuable exercise and socialization, but it also gives us photos, videos, and insights that help match each dog with the perfect family.
