Did you know? In 2021, the SPCA transferred 269 animals. (195 cats, 50 dogs, and 24 small animals)
7-21-2022 Update: Thank you for hitting the original goal of $3300. We have raised the goal to $4000, the left over money will make sure the animals being transferred will get the help they need prior to going to a different shelter!
It is the dog days of summer for sure! While it is hot and humid outside, the team at the shelter is working hard to find homes for the formally forgotten animals of Luzerne County. The major way is through our adoption program. However, this alone is not enough to get all our residents into loving homes and sometimes we transfer animals to other organizations. This is why we always say #ItTakesAVillage. Part of this village is a network of rescues that have room for the animals in our care, opening space in our shelter for additional homeless animals. This village can be in or around Luzerne County, or as far away as Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and even Ohio.
Sometimes the rescues come to the SPCA, and other times like last weekend, the SPCA’s team wakes up early, and drives a 510-mile round trip to Arlington, VA to help 24 cats get to their new homes. Either way, these animals need to be prepped for travel including vaccines, and often spay/neuter surgery. So for the next week, we are coming to our generous supports to ask for help raising $3300 to our #BeTheVillage Campaign to help cover the expense of the next 100 transferred animals. Consider donating today to help get the next “Convoy of Critters” to their forever homes.
