SPCA Explorers
What's an SPCA Explorer you say?
The SPCA Explorers program was developed to help young students ages 11 to 15 yrs discover and 'explore' careers with animals. The program focuses on the traditional and not so traditional jobs in which people work with and for animals. In June 2009 the group had their first official meeting and since that time they have visited with a local pet trainer to discuss the various areas of study for animal behavior and training, a ranger from Lackawanna State Forest to learn about conservation and protecting native wildlife, and visited the Ross Park Zoo in Binghamton NY to learn about the inner workings of a zoo, from administration to animal care. The program will take a brief hiatus from December to March. If you are interested in learning more about the Explorer program or to sign up please email spcaedu@epix.net for more information. We are also looking for more professionals that we can visit or have visit the SPCA, so if you have a great job that works in some way with animals, please don't hesitate to contact us!
